NEWS FLASH: Don't laugh at me if I'm not laughing along. It makes you look stupid.

Facade

Is it all in vain?
When I stare out
The window of my cell
From atop the hard bed
Where all roads eventually lead.
What am I looking for anyway?
The memories are gone.
It’s not like we’ll ever return
To the land of blue skies.
It’s a laughable matter - ha!
Wish upon a star if you must.
It’ll just fade by morning.
Where will you be then?
Square one, where luck does not exist.
Your trivialities mean nothing;
In the end, it’s all a waste of time.
Go to sleep and wonder there -
In your mind.
Either way, life’ll get you down.

Behind The Poem

This poem is one about wasting time upon wishes and dreams. It starts off from the viewpoint of one who makes such wishes - whose life is controlled by them. The person realizes that these do nothing for life; they’re a waste of time. There’s the realization of the facade that is joy and hope, and then the closing. Remembering the days when luck was something plausible and not just an illusion. Written as an assignment for a poetry class.
